That is especially true of elected officials, and especially when York County wants to raise the sales tax from 7% to 8%, a punishing 14% increase, and Chesterfield County by over 16%, in a stagflation economy. York County voters will decide on November 3.
Of course, they are always doing it for good causes and noble reasons. It's for the children. Let's get them out of the 10 trailers they're already occupying.
What is even more outlandish is that there is no responsibility taken by any County Supervisors, staff, or unelected bureaucrats for why, all of a sudden, taxpayers need to go further into debt by $30 to $50 million through municipal bonds for our "crumbling schools and infrastructure." Where have they been for the last couple of decades? Did they not think government-run schools would ever need upkeep, maintenance, or expansion?
Here is the very strong message being received by citizens and voters: county and city comprehensive plans in the Commonwealth are not worth the paper they're written on.
The Same Playbook
Please watch this cogent video from the Center for Independent Thought and John Stossel. Look at Mr. Stossel's timeline. It is fascinating to witness elected officials running the same playbook, with terrible results and ongoing malinvestment of taxpayer dollars.
What's at Stake on November 3
